Sherpa Film Night Events

A very big thank you to our partners and makers of the film Sherpa, and the many supporters who joined us for our fundraising evenings in Adelaide and Melbourne in March. Just over 300 supporters of HDFA attended the thought-provoking film and have contributed much-needed funds to rebuild schools and lives in Nepal.

Build back better

Help rebuilding shattered lives, one chair ($5), one desk ($50), one blackboard ($200), one classroom ($12,000) at a time.

Thousands of children in Nepal have been without classrooms since the devastating earthquakes of 2015, and a generation faces the prospect of illiteracy. Help the Himalayan Development Foundation Australia to Build Back Better: donate now

Seti Devi school

A big 'thank you' from teachers, parents, School Management Committee and kids at the Seti Devi school, Sindupalchowk, to everyone who donated to the school rebuild!

The 170 students of the Seti Devi Primary School will soon be able to enjoy school again. Their school was severely damaged in the 2015 earthquakes. Classes have been able to continue at only a minimum level by utilising temporary learning centres (tents) and combining classes into the few rooms that survived the 2015 earthquake. Rebuilding and repair work on the school started early this year, using earthquake-resistant designs.

In early March, HDFA’s in-country director Jo Chaffer and local engineer Suan went out to check on the work and support the builders on-site in doing a good job for the next stages. Your help IS making a difference.

Chamuna Devi

On March 4th, we visited Chamuna Devi school. This school is set deep in the woods on steep slopes approximately 30 min drive from Seti Devi. The school totally collapsed in the earthquake. Fourteen classrooms, all gone. “Traumatic” would be an understatement!

The communities it serves are very poor, with fewer life options than their neighbours. We need your help to get this school back on its feet and provide a permanent, safe structure allowing students to learn and grow up.

You have kindly donated around 20% of what is needed. Let's make the 80% happen, before the monsoon hits.
