INVITATION Fundraising Movie Night for Nepal “Sherpa”

Exclusive Advance Screening of the Everest documentary "Sherpa"

I would like to invite you to join me, the board and other supporters of the Himalayan Development Foundation Australia for drinks and a film night to view the documentary SHERPA which delves into the role of climbing Sherpas on Mt Everest expeditions. Having lived in Nepal, climbed Everest three times and lead four expeditions myself, I will be hosting a Q&A session at the conclusion of the movie.

We will also give you a short update on the Foundations actives in Nepal and our plans for 2016.

So please spread the word amongst your networks and I hope to see you on this fundraising night.

Thanks Duncan Chessell

Nepal Fundraiser Film Night  "Sherpa"

"Sherpa" is a documentary that follows a 2014 Everest expedition entirely from the Sherpas' point of view.

“We set out to make a film of the 2014 Everest climbing season, from the Sherpas’ point of view, to observe up-close, how and why the relationship between foreign climbers and Sherpas has shifted since the euphoria of the first Everest summit climb in1953. But a brutal avalanche changed all that: with 16 Sherpas dead, the mood soured with grief and anger spilling over. The events of the week that followed were the most transforming on the mountain, and will affect the Sherpa/climbers' dynamic forever.”

Seti Devi School

Seti Devi School

Earthquake rebuilding program commencing March 2016. Seti Devi School on the road to Jiri in the Singdulpulchowk area, which was severely damaged in the 2015 Earthquake has been selected as the 1st school rebuild as one of 10 the Himalayan Development Foundation Australia plans to rebuild over the next two years. This first school rebuild project is fully funded from donations received so a huge THANKS for the support of this important rebuilding project. We will update you with the progress as the project gets underway.

Chamuna Devi School

The 2nd school to be rebuilt will be the Chamuna Devi School, which was completely destroyed in the earthquake and requires a ground up - full rebuild. We are using improved design as part of a Build Back Better (BBB) campaign to ensure safer and more earthquake resistance buildings are built in this process. This building of 12 (class) rooms for 85 children will cost A$165,000 and we have secured the first 20% of the funds for this school. Construction will commence once we secure the remaining funds. Your assistance with this would be greatly appreciated.
