Reflections from Board Member Andrew Stace, one year on from the first big earthquake that rocked Nepal.

A year ago today I was at a wedding having a great night when my heart was broken upon receiving news of the first big earthquake in Nepal. I spent the night at the wedding trying to find friends through Facebook and phone calls deeply upset at what was occurring in the Himalayas.

I felt helpless. I had only left Nepal 5 days earlier having been there visiting our projects in Eastern Nepal.

As the days and months have passed, the resilience and strength of the Nepalis has been amazing to watch through such desperation and at times anger at how slow things have moved in the rebuilding process.

Still, one year on and with a huge job ahead of them they look to the future. The amazing team at HDFA and their partner organisations have worked hard to support immediate relief and now help with the rebuilding of schools and important infrastructure.

I look forward to returning to Nepal again and seeing the smiling faces that I know and love.
